Note: These pictures ended up in reverse order so read backward to forward if you want the story in the correct order(: We had planned on this trip since the spring and as it got closer we realized that it wouldn't be a great idea with a newborn, so Erik took Meg, Sam and Kate as well as Lars, Dyan and Nora. It ended up being a good decision since it rained the second day they were there and it would have been a terrible experience for a baby getting rained on during the entire hike out. The other children survived their adventures just fine of course!
Here are my three sweet children willing to be dragged up a mountain with backpacks just to be a Johnson....because that's the Johnson way(: Here they are at the end of their adventure no worse for the wear, just a little more tired, dirty and wet....nothing a nice warm bath and bed can't fix!
Lars, Dyan and the kids!
A picture of the gang including Dyan and Erik while having a snack on the way out. This was the last big adventure for the kids since school started a day later.
Waiting out the rain. Since it kept pouring and everyone was just sitting in their tents getting dripped on they decided to pack it up and head out. This is Kate on her way down the trail.
Aloha Lake
Sammy enjoying a bagel by the tent.
Nora's hang out in the rain!
What a pretty view!
Eating ice cream sandwiches at the Lake....camping food CAN be pretty cool in a weird warm sorta way!
The campsite.
Hanging out at the Lake's edge, soaking up the sun....wait a minute...where did the sun go?
Baby Nora is our favorite local cousin!!! She is learning the "Johnson way" too!
A bit colder then Meg had anticipated!
Time for a swim to wash off the dirt and sweat!
Nearing the top of the climb.
Holding hands to help each other out. One of my favorite pictures!
First view of Echo Lake and how far they have climbed!
Nothing like switch backs for a good time!
Daddy: the camping and backpacking sherpa.
Kate starting her climb with her new pink backpack!
One the other side of Echo Lake.
When the water is low this part of the boating experience is great because the boatman has to maneuver around stick, rocks and islands. There are small cabins that pepper the rocky shores that look like a blast to stay in. Very rustic to say the least.
Here Sam, Meg and Kate are boating across Echo Lake to get over to the trailhead. The fun part of the hike(; It cuts 3 miles off of the hike.
